Here's what to do when hauling out and launching. Always follow the instruction book for your engine.
Autumn
Change the engine oil and oil filter12 l VDS-2 + ACEA E7 / Global DHD-1 / API CH-4 / API CI-4 (min. VDS-3); SAE 15W-40
Replace the fuel filter and water separatorFill the tank to reduce condensation.
Winterise the raw water systemLet the engine draw in antifreeze until it comes out of the exhaust, or drain the system as described in the owner's manual.
Check the coolant's antifreeze protection
Remove the impeller and store it dry
Check anodes, belts and hoses
Fully charge the batteries and disconnect the negative terminal
Spring
Fit the impellerReplace it if it is stiff or cracked.
Check belts, hoses, oil level and coolant
Check through-hulls, seacocks and hose clamps
Charge and connect the batteries, clean the terminals
After launching, check that nothing is leakingStart the engine and check that cooling water flows out evenly.
D4 takes about 12 litres of engine oil including the filter. Applies to all permitted installation angles; 1.2 l between MIN and MAX. Newer D4 (2022 edition): oil grade VDS-4.5, change every 200 h/24 months.
